Council President Frank White To Hold Press Conference At 5:00 PM Today

Not only did the Daily Times write an irresponsible article challenging Frank White today, they came back with yet ANOTHER second article going on the attack once again.

This is completely out of line and clear that the Daily Times is simply throwing their weight around in the hopes of destroying yet another Public Figure.

Lord knows I have done my own fair share of going after Public Officials but when a man is re-elected several times because he has been honorable and positive towards the economic and development of one community, the citizens of Princess Anne proved with their votes this is the man they chose to represent the entire community.

To top that off, he has been re-elected three or four times as Council President by the Town Council. No man or woman is perfect, we all know that. However, Ted Kennedy has proven for many years that you can make mistakes and still serve your community.

Frank White has taken many punches, faced several firing squads and has taken full responsibility of any of his actions. He received an $1,200.00 a year salary from Princess Anne and has held more get togethers at his home in which he never charged back the Town for these expenses.

"It's horrible what the Daily Times has done to me today and I will sue them for defamation of character" said Frank White.

I personally believe the Daily Times is out to crush anyone who has ever disagreed with them and Frank White is no stranger to abuse from the Daily Times. Over the years he has refused to speak to them because they twisted so many stories and refused to tell the facts. Why should someone allow interviews when they know, no matter what you say they're going to twist it.

The Daily Times has done this to Von Siggers, Rachel Polk, Terry Cohen, Debbie Campbell, Tim Spies, Davis Ruark and now Frank White. It's about time a Public Official stood their ground and sued this rag they call a newspaper. I think we ALL know who's behind these personal attacks and quite frankly I do not believe they're done. I believe they are a strong part of some one's political agenda and they're looking to do and say anything to sell papers because they're drifting off the face of the earth and our hits/visits at Salisbury News proves it each and every day.

They claimed no one could go up against them, yet ONE MAN has done so and I am destroying them. I hope Frank White tears them a new one and beats them in Court.

Another Comment Worthy Of A Post

I figured that I would take this time to level the playing field a little bit. Joe, feel free to start a post on this one...

Many U.S. citizens criticized our current administration, but I can't help but to think if it would be any better had McCain & Palin taken office. The following Palin comments really make you wonder how people get as far as she did in life! Keep in mind that these were all actually said by Sarah Palin, not simply made up...try to use your best Palin accent while reading these inorder to get the full effect! Enjoy...

"As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border." --Sarah Palin, explaining why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview with CBS's Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008

"I think on a national level your Department of Law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out." --Sarah Palin, referring to a department that does not exist while attempting to explain why as president she wouldn't be subjected to the same ethics investigations that compelled her to resign as governor of Alaska, ABC News interview, July 7, 2009

"We believe that the best of America is not all in Washington, D.C. ... We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation." --Sarah Palin, speaking at a fundraiser in Greensoboro, N.C., Oct. 16, 2008

"Well, let's see. There's ― of course in the great history of America there have been rulings that there's never going to be absolute consensus by every American, and there are those issues, again, like Roe v. Wade, where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So, you know, going through the history of America, there would be others but ―" --Sarah Palin, unable to name a Supreme Court decision she disagreed with other than Roe vs. Wade, interview with Katie Couric, CBS News, Oct. 1, 2008

"All of 'em, any of 'em that have been in front of me over all these years." --Sarah Palin, unable to name a single newspaper or magazine she reads, interview with Katie Couric, CBS News, Oct. 1, 2008

"They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan." --Sarah Palin, speaking at a fundraiser in San Francisco, Oct. 5, 2008

"They're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom." --Sarah Palin, getting the vice president's constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does, interview with NBC affiliate KUSA in Colorado, Oct. 21, 2008

"I told the Congress, 'Thanks, but no thanks,' on that Bridge to Nowhere." –Sarah Palin, who was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it

"I'm the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can't.'" --Sarah Palin, as quoted by former City Council Member Nick Carney, after he raised objections about the $50,000 she spent renovating the mayor's office without approval of the city council

And you all thought that we are trouble with the Obama administation-it could have been worse!

Hamas Tries To Detain Woman Walking With Man

Attempt raises fears of strict enforcement of Islamic law

JERUSALEM - An attempt by Hamas police to detain a young woman walking with a man along the Gaza beach has raised alarms that the Islamic militant group is seeking to match its political control of the coastal territory with a strict enforcement of Islamic law.

The incident was the first time Hamas has openly tried to punish a woman for behaving in a way it views as un-Islamic since seizing power two years ago. But it follows months of quiet pressure on Gaza's overwhelmingly conservative 1.4 million residents to abide by its strict religious mores.

Hamas officials in Gaza have publicly urged shopkeepers to take down foreign advertisements showing the shape of women's bodies and to stash away lingerie often displayed in windows. Officials search electronic shops to check if they are selling pornography on tiny flash drives.

A Comment Worthy Of A Post

Having been a Police Officer for a couple years I felt the need to comment on this because I hear this complaint a lot from citizens during casual conversation.

First off, let me say thank you to the poster for showing the gratitude to Officer Bagley for the help that he gave her.

There are more than just a few things to be considered when someone is broken down on the side of the road when an Officer has to decide the level of help he is willing to give. Personally, I only feel the need to change a tire for someone who is physically unable to do it themselves, for instance someone with a handicap or someone elderly. If you drive a car you should be aware of basic emergency maintanence problems that you might encounter and be able to fix them. You don't drive a car without knowing how to put gas in it so why would you drive one without knowing how to change a tire. It's not rocket science and I guarantee we all know at least one person that could teach us how to change one.

Second, the police are not AAA. Someone had mentioned liability. Liability is certainly one factor to consider. If I were to change a tire on someone's car and make a mistake tightening one of the lug nuts and that person has an accident due to that, I have taken on a HUGE liability. In the old days nobody would dream about suing someone who had tried to help them, well this isn't the old days. There are many roadside services and companies who are more than willing to come out if you have a problem that you can't fix and they will charge you for it, why should the police be obligated to do it in non life threatening situations for free.

I can give you an example from my own personal experience why I may be a little bitter to this topic. One Saturday last July I had just started my shift at 3:00 pm and was patrolling Route 50 between Vienna and Cambridge when I came upon a car stopped in the median. The woman was traveling west and had a flat tire on the driver's side of her car. I stopped and she asked for my help. She was accompanied by her son (which I would guess was about 18 or 19) and what appeared to be his girlfriend (about the same age as him). Well first I explained to her that in order to change her tire she was going to have to pull to the other side of the road because it would be impossible to jack her car up on that side in the moist dirt and grass. I blocked traffic for her as she moved her car to the right shoulder. I have already at this point assumed a liability. If this woman wants to be ignorant she can say that now her wheel is bent because Officer SuchandSuch instructed her to drive on a flat tire, not likely but possible. So when we get to the shoulder she states that she had a jack and a spare tire in her trunk. I ask her son if he knows how to change it and he replies with the common "Nah man, I never done that before". The woman says she doesn't either and the girl just looks at me like I have three heads. It was a hot day (about 90-95 degrees), and traffic was extremely busy.

I decide to change the tire for the woman. I jacked her car up, start pulling off her flat tire and as I was to the trunk to get her spare out for her (which apparently even that was too much for her son to do), I notice that the young lady has since stripped down to a bikini, pulled out a beach towel, and started sunbathing on the side of Route 50 while her boyfriend sat next to her playing with her hair. So here I am, in my bullet proof vest, my polyester shirt, my wool/polyester pants, with my 20-25 lb gun belt and cute little hat, sweating bullets and changing a tire while two perfectly capable kids frollick (sp) on the side of Route 50. Well anyone that has ever changed a tire knows that it is practically impossible to do without getting dirt, oil, road grease, and everything else a tire picks up all over yourself. This is the start of my shift and I have 8 hours to go. So, being I commute 1 hour to and from work I will now be working, caked in dirt, drenched in sweat, for the duration of my shift. After that shift I will get the honor of having to pay to have my uniform dry cleaned. So the tire is changed, the woman did give me a quick "thank you" and subsequently drove off with me never hearing from her again.

So you can thank that woman, her son, and his cute girlfriend the next time I roll up behind you when you have a flat tire. What I will probably do for you is turn my lights on so that you don't get hit and offer to have our dispatcher call you a tow truck or you can fix it yourself.

In closing I am willing to take time out of my shift and most other Officers I know would as well, to teach ANYONE how to change a flat tire if the come to the Department I work at and ask for such instruction. It would take a total of about 10 minutes to teach someone and I'm more than willing to do that. Although I'm not going to say where I work I believe you could probably call any Department in this area and they would do the same. I expect though that I will never hear of anyone calling in requesting to be taught. That would take too much time out of their day when they could just hope that a Police Officer will do it for them when they need it.

Is North Korea Behind Cyber Attacks?

SEOUL, South Korea (July 8) - South Korean intelligence officials believe North Korea or pro-Pyongyang forces committed cyber attacks that paralyzed major South Korean and U.S. government Web sites, aides to two lawmakers said Wednesday.

The sites of 11 South Korean organizations, including the presidential Blue House and the Defense Ministry, went down or had access problems since late Tuesday, according to the state-run Korea Information Security Agency. Agency spokeswoman Ahn Jeong-eun said 11 U.S. sites suffered similar problems. She said the agency is investigating the case with police and prosecutors.

SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (July 8) - An advertising executive — who vowed he wouldn't be divorced until his ex-wife was dead — kidnapped her from a parking lot and called for a priest to give her last rites before setting their house on fire during a 13-hour standoff, police said.

Richard Shenkman gave up about midnight Tuesday as flames destroyed the South Windsor house he once shared with Nancy Tyler. The fire ignited about an hour after Tyler escaped, a handcuff dangling from one wrist.

Two Adopt-A-Highway Groups Tie For Adopt-A-Highway Group Of The Quarter

For Period April - June 2009

Dover
-- The Delaware Department of Transportation's (DelDOT) Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) Program announces that two groups have tied for the Adopt-A-Highway Group of the Quarter distinction for the period of April through June 2009. The groups are the Delaware City Lions Club and the Middletown-Odessa Rotary Club. Both groups collected 42 bags of litter in their respective communities.

Delaware City Lions Club, which joined in 1998, recently had 15 members on hand to clean Cox Neck Road from Route 13 to the Delaware City limits. Likewise, the Middletown-Odessa Rotary Club, which joined in 1997, had 13 members come together to clean Marl Pit Road and Armstrong Corner Road. These two long-serving organizations are setting a great example for other such service groups across our state.

Being designated as the Group of the Quarter has its privileges. Not only does it make Delaware's roadsides cleaner, safer and healthier for everyone, the groups receive public recognition. DelDOT posts a special "thank you" sign under their existing AAH sign, they are featured on DelDOT's Web site (www.deldot.gov), they receive an award certificate and their hometown newspaper is informed of their service in the community.

DelDOT congratulates Delaware City Lions Club and Middletown-Odessa Rotary Club on earning the title of AAH Group of the Quarter.

Iraq Group Calls For Further Attacks On U.S. Troops

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – An insurgent group linked to al-Qaeda of Iraq urged militants to continue attacks against U.S. forces even after combat troops were pulled from city centers, according to an audiotape released on Wednesday.

"Even if the Americans remain nowhere but a small spot in the Iraqi desert ... so every Muslim should battle them until they are expelled," the voice, reported to be Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, head of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq, said in the recording posted on a website used by jihadists.

The Iraqi government heralded the capture this spring of a man they identified as Baghdadi, just as an uptick in major attacks raised troubling questions about whether Iraq would be able to maintain a sharp decline in the violence unleashed by the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

It was not the first time Iraqi officials had announced the capture of someone identified as Baghdadi, and the Sunni Arab insurgent group has since denied his arrest.

2 Suspected US Missile Attacks Kill 28 In Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – Suspected U.S. drones launched two missile attacks on Taliban targets in the South Waziristan tribal region on Wednesday, killing at least 28 militants in the latest in a barrage of strikes close to the Afghan border, intelligence officials said.

The army said the top Taliban commander in another area of the northwest, the scenic Swat Valley, was wounded in an airstrike. It gave no more details.

South Waziristan lies close to the Afghan border and is the stronghold of Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud.

Pakistan's military is also bombing and firing mortars at insurgent targets in the region, saying it is chipping away at Mehsud's resistance before launching a ground offensive there to eliminate him. Mehsud is blamed for many of the bloodiest terrorist attacks in nuclear-armed Pakistan in recent years.

The first strike took place before dawn. A suspected U.S. drone fired six missiles at a mountaintop training camp in the Karwan Manza area of South Waziristan, killing 10 militants, the intelligence officials said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to media. The nationalities and the identities of the slain men were not immediately known.

The Daily Times Goes After Frank White Again

Here we go again. The Daily Times has created an article attempting to bash Frank White once again, challenging charges on a Town Credit Card for legitimate expenses.
It's amazing what that newspaper can do to others, spewing innuendo and in the end they'll come back saying they never said he did anything wrong.
Jay Parker was terminated and someone had to step in to keep Town business in order. Frank White covered that position for FREE for the past 3 months and conducted business meetings ON HIS OWN TIME AND HIS OWN DIME.
Other than standard business expenses, NOTHING has been challenged other than the Daily Times throwing out information that would bring in the same kind of results ANY Mayor or Town Manager would produce.
Look, I'm all about nailing ANYONE for any wrong doing, I'm an expert at it. However, their hate, (the Daily Times) for Frank White becomes more and more clear every time they create these ridiculous articles. They went after Frank White and Davis Ruark for DUI's probably 50 times a piece. One of the reasons for such is because they wanted to throw their weight around and show Frank White and Davis Ruark what power they had the first time they got the chance and force these individuals to feed them information.
The bottom line is, Frank White received $1,500.00 a YEAR for being President of their Town Council. Do any of YOU have ANY clue how much time that takes? This man has given a huge chunk of his life to Princess Anne and is voted back into Office each and every time and then voted in as President. If that doesn't tell you a whole lot, well, I really don't know what to tell you.
There have been rumors going around for years about Frank White and his being Police Chief in Pocomoke. Provide the judgements against him and or stop the BS lies and rumors. This man wouldn't be in the position he's now in if he was a crook or a criminal. The Daily Times doesn't get the cooperation THEY want from Frank, so they go after him any chance they get.
Just because Joe Albero is a Friend of Frank White doesn't mean you have the right to smear these people. That goes for commenters here or anywhere else. Frank White simply replaced Jay Parker for the past 3 months and conducted business for the Town of Princess Anne. Mind you, on his own time. If it meant taking a Developer to lunch or dinner, that's how business is conducted and SHAME ON THE DAILY TIMES for creating one of the most unprofessional articles I have ever seen them do.
I challenge any one of you to meet Frank White face to face. I have known Frank for years and I stand behind Frank just as I would my own Brother. You won't hear me say that about many people, especially politicians. Frank White is not perfect, (like me) but he is a good, honorable man who cares more about Princess Anne than anyone else I have ever met. Princess Anne is very lucky to have such a man represent that Town, PERIOD!
Drop your subscription to the Daily Times today. They have an agenda to remove those people who don't agree with their BS Newspaper and this is just the beginning. You're NOT a Blog, Daily Times. People pay good hard earned money for professional news. I wouldn't wipe my A$$ with today's newspaper, it's too dirty.

Steve Wallace Struck By Lightning

Last Wednesday night at a little after 10 p.m. my husband was struck by lightening in our driveway. Surprisingly, when he went outside, there was only thunder way off in the distance; it wasn't even raining. He went to one of our trucks to put a jump-box in it that had been charging in our garage when lightening struck both he and the truck. It blew him several feet away and he was barely conscious but breathing. Station 16 EMS & Medical Assist from "B Shift" responded. I want to publicly thank each and every one of those guys that came to my husband's rescue. They did an awesome job! I have read so much negativity about the Fire Department, that I just wanted them to get the praise this time. I didn't care how much apparatus came to my home, I just wanted to know that my husband was getting quality care...and he did. Every person that was on the scene played an important part in my husband's care, and I can't thank them enough.

I would also like to thank the Doctors, Nurses, Clergy and staff at PRMC Emergency. They did an awesome job as well. I would also like to thank my sister, Denise and my nephew, Shawn for keeping this hysterical person as calm as they could. To my daughter, Jess, you made me laugh through all of those tears! Amazingly, my husband and I walked out of the Emergency Room on Thursday morning. He is very sore, has a lot of ringing in his ears and tires easily, but he is home and alive!

A lot of people said that my husband was lucky...luck had nothing to do with it. God spared his life and sent all of those angels to the rescue.

Sincerely,
Nancy Wallace

The Senate vote against the plan from Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., was among a series of voice votes on a number of amendments to a spending bill that provides money for Congress' own budget.

According to Roll Call, Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., had wanted the spending bill approved last month, but DeMint had resisted having the spending approved by unanimous consent.

The DeMint plan was to add an amendment to the spending bill that would have provided for an audit of the Fed to include information about its funding facilities, market operations and any agreements with foreign banks and governments, DeMint told senators, according to Reuters.

Missing Our Moment In Iran

by Victor Davis Hanson

Last month, hundreds of thousands of Iranians took to the streets to protest a rigged presidential election. Our president was extremely cautious in his initial criticism of the Iranian government's fierce crackdown against the protestors. At first, President Obama said that the United States — given our history in Iran — should not be "meddling" in the country's internal affairs.

Obama suggested that the leading opposition candidate, the reformer Mir-Hossein Mousavi, might not be that different from the entrenched theocracy's choice, the incumbent (and winner of the June election) Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Finally, as both the crowds in the Iranian streets and violence against them increased over the next several days, Obama conceded that he was "appalled" at the clerics' repression.

In defense of the president's hesitation, some of his supporters argued that our initial neutrality was aimed at not spoiling the administration's earlier efforts at outreach to Iran's Islamist regime. We were taking the realistic long view, they added, in which negotiations with the clerics might still curb Iran's nuclear-weapon aspirations and their support for terrorism. As Obama's U.N. ambassador, Susan Rice, put it, the "legitimacy" of the regime was "not the critical issue in terms of our dealings with Iran."

Perhaps Obama also wishes to avoid former President Bush's muscular approach in the Middle East, which ended up in costly efforts to foster legitimate constitutional governments in Afghanistan and Iraq, after removing the Taliban and Saddam Hussein.

Unfortunately, Obama's policy is a lose/lose proposition that will please neither side in Iran. Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, isn't going to suddenly embrace the U.S. because of Obama's more charismatic approach, much less stop subsidizing terrorists and developing a nuclear arsenal.

For over three decades, the Carter, Reagan, Bush I, Clinton and Bush II administrations all reached out — both overtly and covertly — to the Iranian theocracy, with offers of normalizing relations, secret arms deals, back-channel meetings and occasional apologies. But the clerics today are as anti-American as they were in 1979. And they're still rounding up, killing and torturing dissidents in the same manner that they had consolidated power after the fall of the Shah.

In addition, our belated, tepid criticism of the repressive Iran government may not translate into goodwill from Iranian advocates for freedom — given our painful silence in the early days of the demonstrations when achieving global support was critical.

And what about other pro-democracy dissidents abroad — whether in Cuba, the Arab world or Venezuela? Will they still trust that the U.S. supports their efforts to obtain a free society?

Meanwhile, authoritarians in China, North Korea, Russia, the Middle East and South America may draw two unfair, but nevertheless unfortunate conclusions. One, the United States does not much care what other regimes do to their own people. Two, a new America will overlook almost anything in order just to get along with these authoritarians.

But is the U.S. at least consistent in its promises not to meddle?

Not all the time.

When Benjamin Netanyahu came to power in Israel, the Obama administration made its distaste clear. It also has tried to find ways to isolate Hamid Karzai's elected government in Afghanistan — and was initially not happy about the prospects of its re-election.

Most recently, the U.S. condemned the Honduran military's arrest of President Manuel Zelaya. The nation's supreme court had found his efforts to extend his presidential tenure in violation of its constitution, once Zelaya tried to finesse an illegal third term.

In other words, the U.S. pressures other nations as it pleases — though strangely now more to lean on friends than to criticize rivals and enemies.

In contrast, had President Obama voiced early, consistent and sharp criticism of the Iranian crackdown, the theocracy would have worried that the president's stature could have galvanized global boycotts and embargos to isolate the theocracy and aid the dissidents. And the reformers in the streets could have become even more confident with a trademark Obama "hope and change" endorsement.

Internal democratic change in Iran is the only peaceful solution to stopping an Iranian bomb, three decades of Iranian-sponsored terrorism and a Middle East arms race. When thousands risked their lives for a better Iran, a better Middle East and a better world, we, the land of the free, simply were not with them.

Salisbury University Guerrieri Building Vandalized

While this has been kept secret and out of the MSM, the Guerrieri Building was vandalized a week ago and the damage was around $25,000.00.

We don't have a lot of additional information as of yet but we're confident something serious happened as the building was broken into and there was extensive damage. Its kind of interesting how something so serious can get covered up.

More to come.....

I Think We Have All Spoken To Him

Mujibar was trying to get a job in India ..

The Personnel Manager said, 'Mujibar, you have passed all the tests, except one. Unless you pass it, you cannot qualify for this job.'

Mujibar said, 'I am ready.'

The manager said, 'Make a sentence using the words Yellow, Pink and Green.'

Mujibar thought for a few minutes and said, 'Mister manager, I am ready'

The manager said, 'Go ahead.'

Mujibar said, 'The telephone goes green, green, and I pink it up, and say, 'Yellow ', this is Mujibar..'

Mujibar now works at a call center.

In Russia, Obama’s Star Power Does Not Translate

MOSCOW — Let other capitals go all weak-kneed when President Obama visits. Moscow has greeted Mr. Obama, who on Tuesday night concluded a two-day Russian-American summit meeting, as if he were just another dignitary passing through.

Crowds did not clamor for a glimpse of him. Headlines offered only glancing or flippant notice of his activities. Television programming was uninterrupted; devotees of the Russian Judge Judy had nothing to fear. Even many students and alumni of the Western-oriented business school where Mr. Obama gave the graduation address on Tuesday seemed merely respectful, but hardly enthralled.

“We don’t really understand why Obama is such a star,” said Kirill Zagorodnov, 25, one of the graduates. “It’s a question of trust, how he behaves, how he positions himself, that typical charisma, which in Russia is often parodied. Russians really are not accustomed to it. It is like he is trying to manipulate the public.”

Useful Medical Information

If you are bothered by occasional or frequent constipation, look in the mirror and repeat the following phrase three times in succession when symptoms
occur:

"My financial and personal well being are totally in the hands of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Tim Geithner, Rahm Emmanuel, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Al Gore"

If that doesn't scare the crap out of you, then you are probably destined to be backed up for the rest of your life.

COLONEL ED HAS DIED

He wanted to be a Marine fighter pilot. The US was building up their military force, but they were not at war yet and the Navy required all its potential Navy and Marine pilots to have two years of college. So Ed started classes at Boston College.

When Pearl Harbor was attacked the Army and the Navy both dropped the college requirement and Ed applied to the Marines. His primary flight training was in Dallas and then he went to Pensacola, Florida. He was carrier qualified, which means he knew how to perform a controlled crash of his single engine fighter, onto the rolling deck of a Navy floating runway.

It took Ed almost two years to get through all the Navy flight training. His problem was he was a very good pilot and the Marines needed flight instructors. He had a great command presence and public speaking ability, which landed him in the classroom, training new baby Marine pilots.

His orders to the Pacific fleet and the chance to fly combat missions off a carrier came in the spring of 1945, on the same day the Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Of course his orders where changed. He never went to sea and he was out of the Marines in 1946.

Ed stayed in the USMC as a reserve officer. He became a successful personality in the new TV medium, after the war. His Marine command presence helped. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. He never got to fly his fighter aircraft, but he saw his share of raw combat. He flew the Cessna O-1E Bird Dog, which is a single engine slow-moving unarmed plane. He functioned as an artillery spotter for the Marine batteries on the ground and as a forward controller for the Navy & Marine fighter / bombers who flew in on fast moving jet engines, bombed the area and were gone in seconds. Captain Ed was still circling the enemy looking for more targets, all the time taking North Korean and Chinese ground fire.

He stayed with the Marines as a reserve officer and retired in 1966 as a Colonel.

The world knows Ed as Ed McMahon of the Johnny Carson, Tonight Show. One night I was watching the show when the subject of Colonel McMahon earning a number of Navy Air Medals came up. Carson, a former Navy officer, understood the significance of these medals, but McMahon shrugged it off, saying that if you flew enough combat missions they just sort of gave them to you. McMahon flew 85 combat missions over North Korea; he earned every one of those Air Medals. The casualty rate, for flying forward air controllers in Korea sometimes exceeded 50% of a squadron’s manpower. McMahon was lucky to have gotten home from that war.

Once a Marine, always a Marine.

When the public was spitting (taking their personal safety into their own hands) at Marines on the streets of Southern California during Vietnam, Colonel McMahon was taking Marines off the streets and into his posh Beverley Hills home. I spoke to a retired Marine aircrew member the day Colonel McMahon died and he personally remembered seeing McMahon at numerous Marine Air Bases in California in the 1960s.. He was known for going to the Navy hospitals and visiting the wounded Marines and Sailors from this country’s conflicts, even in the last years of his life.

Colonel McMahon presented awards and decorations to fellow Marines and attended many a Marine ceremony and the annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball. He stayed true to his Corps as a board member of the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund and as the honorary chairman of the National Marine Corps Aviation Museum. After retiring from the Marine Reserve, one night on the Johnny Carson show, members of the California Air National Guard came on stage.

Colonel McMahon was commissioned a Brigadier General in the Air Guard in front of millions of Americans who watched it happen live. You will not see anything like that on TV anymore.

The three core values of a United States Marine are; honor, courage and commitment. This is what a Marine is taught from the first day of training and this is what that Marine believes. That was Colonel Edward P. McMahon Jr. USMCR Retired. Before he was a national figure he was a true combat hero and a patriot the nation needed then and this country needs now.

Your war is over. Thank you Colonel McMahon. Semper Fi sir.

Family Night For Obamas Miffs Some In Moscow

After passing on dinner with the French president to go on a date in the City of Light with his wife last month, President Obama took leave of his Russian hosts on Tuesday night to seclude himself in his Moscow hotel with his wife, Michelle, and their daughters.

The first family enjoyed a relaxed evening at the O2 Lounge, the super-chic, super-pricey rooftop club at the new Ritz-Carlton, although no doubt the Secret Service first cleared the place of most if not all of the swaggering tycoons and leggy models who flock to such Moscow venues.

They could not ask for a more scenic vista. The glass-enclosed O2 offers a panoramic view of Moscow, including Red Square and the Kremlin, all the more striking as the lingering summer sun sets after 10 p.m. The club is “a place to see and be seen,” as its Web site says — that is, unless you are a visiting president who after a day and a half of blinis, beluga and bilats (the diplo term for “bilateral meetings”) just wants to hang out with the clan.

A Message Worth Repeating

"Campbell's candidacy for second term applauded

The Daily Times (Salisbury, MD)-November 13, 2008

I would like to thank Salisbury City Councilwoman Deborah Campbell for continuing to fight for a change in Salisbury. Her announcement has made a lot of people very happy to know that the voice they count on to fight for them isn't going anywhere.

When it comes to Salisbury, Campbell always has our best interests in mind.

If You Love Something, Set It Free

If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it was, and always will be yours. If it never returns, it was never yours to begin with. If it just sits in your room, messes up your stuff, eats your food, uses your phone, takes your money, and never behaves as if you actually set it free in the first place, you either married it or gave birth to it.

Spaghetti

For several years, a man had been having an affair with an Italian woman.

One night, she confided to him that she was pregnant.

Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he paid her a large sum of money if she would go back to Italy to secretly have the child. Also, if she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would provide child support until the child turned 18.

She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born.

To keep it discrete, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and write 'Spaghetti' on the back when the child was born. He would then arrange for the Child Support Payments to begin.

One day, about 8 months later, he came home to his confused wife.

'Honey,' she said, 'You received a very strange post card today.'

'Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it later,' he said.

The wife obeyed and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted.

On the card was written:

Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti.
Three with meatballs, two without. Send extra sauce
