Amid Crises, Obama Declares War -- On Arizona

The Obama administration has a lot of fights on its hands. Putting aside real wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, there's the battle against leaking oil in the Gulf, the struggle against 9.7 percent unemployment across the country, and clashes over the president's agenda on Capitol Hill. Despite all that, the White House has found time to issue a new declaration of war, this time against an unlikely enemy: the state of Arizona.

The Justice Department is preparing to sue Arizona over its new immigration law. The president has stiffed Gov. Jan Brewer's call for meaningful assistance in efforts to secure the border. And the White House has accused Arizona's junior senator, Republican Jon Kyl, of lying about an Oval Office discussion with the president over comprehensive immigration reform. Put them all together, and you have an ugly state of affairs that's getting uglier by the day.

First, the lawsuit. Last week, Brewer was appalled to learn the Justice Department's intentions not from the Justice Department but from an interview done by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with an Ecuadorian TV outlet. "It would seem to me that if they were going to file suit against us," Brewer told Fox News' Greta van Susteren last week, "they definitely would have contacted us first and informed us before they informed citizens ... of another nation."

But they didn't.

"There certainly seems to be an underlying disrespect for the state of Arizona," says Kris Kobach, the law professor and former Bush administration Justice Department official who helped draft the Arizona law. Kobach points out that during the Bush years, several states openly flouted federal immigration law on issues like sanctuary cities and in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. Respecting the doctrines of comity and federalism, the Bush administration didn't sue. Now, when Arizona passes a measure that is fully consistent with federal law, the Obama administration, says Kobach, "goes sprinting to the courthouse door."

Then there is the matter of the White House's assistance, or nonassistance, in Arizona's border-security efforts. On June 3, the president, under criticism for refusing to meet or even talk to Brewer, reluctantly granted her an audience in the Oval Office. After the meeting, Brewer told reporters Obama pledged that administration officials would come to Arizona within two weeks with details of plans to secure the border.

June 17 marked two weeks, and there were no administration officials and no plans. There still aren't. "What a disappointment," Brewer told van Susteren. "You know, when you hear from the president of the United States and he gives you a commitment, you would think that they would stand up and stand by their word. It is totally disappointing."

And now, there's the Kyl controversy. On June 18, Kyl told a town meeting in North Phoenix that Obama personally told him the administration will not secure the U.S.-Mexico border because doing so would make it politically difficult to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

Uncle Steny: Tax Hike Needed On Middle Class To Keep Up With Spending

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Tuesday that tax increases will eventually be necessary to address the nation's mounting debt, raising a difficult election-year issue as Democrats fight retain control of Congress.

In the shorter term, Hoyer raised the possibility that Congress will only temporarily extend middle-class tax cuts set to expire at the end of the year. He pointedly suggested that making them permanent would be too costly.

Tax cuts enacted under former President George W. Bush are scheduled to expire at the end of the year, affecting taxpayers at every income level. President Barack Obama proposes to permanently extend them for individuals making less than $200,000 a year and families making less than $250,000—at a cost of about $2.5 trillion over the next decade.

"As the House and Senate debate what to do with the expiring Bush tax cuts in the coming weeks, we need to have a serious discussion about their implications for our fiscal outlook, including whether we can afford to permanently extend them before we have a real plan for long-term deficit reduction," said Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat.

In the short term, government spending has been necessary to stimulate the economy, Hoyer said. But in the longer term, Congress will have to rein in spending and raise taxes to tackle the debt, he added.

"Raising revenue is part of the deficit solution, too," Hoyer said.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said, "It's now official. Top Democrats on Capitol Hill are starting to signal their intention to raise taxes on the middle class."

Egyptian Government Suppresses Christian Doctrine

by Raymond Ibrahim

Pajamas Media

It is not enough that the Egyptian government facilitates persecution of the Copts, Egypt's indigenous Christian minority. Now the government is interfering directly with the church's autonomy concerning doctrine. According to the Assyrian International News Agency:

The head of the Coptic Church in Egypt has rejected a court ruling that orders the church to allow divorced Copts to remarry in the church. In a press conference held on Tuesday June 8, Pope Shenouda [III], reading from the statement issued by the Holy Synod's 91 Bishops, including himself, said: "The Coptic Church respects the law, but does not accept rulings which are against the Bible and against its religious freedom which is guaranteed by the Constitution." He went on to say "the recent ruling is not acceptable to our conscience, and we cannot implement it." He also said that marriage is a holy sacrament of a purely religious nature and not merely an "administrative act."

Though little reported in the West, this issue is rapidly boiling over. There is even talk that, if he does not submit to the court's ruling, the pope will (once again) be imprisoned. What is behind such unprecedented governmental interference with the Coptic Church's autonomy?

Reading Egypt's national newspaper, Al Ahram, one gets the impression that, by trying to make divorce and remarriage easier for Copts, the Egyptian government is attempting to "liberalize" Coptic society — only to be challenged by an antiquated pope not open to "reform." It quotes one Copt saying that the "Pope's limiting divorce and remarriage to cases of adultery is unfair. It is against human nature." Even the manager of the Centre for Egyptian Women's Legal Assistance claims that his position "exposes Pope Shenouda's desire to impose his will over the Christian community" (a curious statement, considering that some 10,000 Copts recently demonstrated in support of the pope, and that the Catholic and Orthodox churches — which guide some 1.5 billion Christians — hold similar views on divorce and remarriage).

At any rate, lest the reader truly think that the Egyptian government is becoming more "liberal," there are a few important facts to remember:

BREAKING NEWS: Rumors Of Executive Order Amnesty

Several Senators have learned of a possible plan by the Obama Administration that would provide a mass Amnesty for the nation's 11-18 million illegal aliens. Led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), eight Senators addressed a letter to the President asking for answers to questions about a plan that would allow DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to provide an amnesty if they can't secure enough votes for a bill in the Senate.

The letter that was sent to Pres. Obama earlier today asks the President for clarification on the use of deferred action or parole for illegal aliens. The executive actions are typically used in special cases and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but if 60 votes can't be secured in the Senate to pass a mass Amnesty, the Administration may use the discretionary actions as an alternative.

Here is the text of the letter signed by Sens. Grassley, Hatch (R-Utah), Vitter (R-La.), Bunning (R-Ky.), Chambliss (R-Ga.), Isakson (R-Ga.), Inhofe (R-Okla.), and Cochran (R-Miss.).:

New Traffic Law 2010 - Ticket Cost $754.00

GOOD THING TO KNOW:

New Law: If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road, you have to change to the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down by 20 mph. Every state except Hawaii, Maryland and D.C. has this law.

A friend's son got a ticket for this recently. A police car (turned out it was 2 police cars) was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone else. He slowed down to pass but did not move into the other lane. The second police car immediately pulled him over and gave him a ticket. He had never heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able (be sure and look to make sure no one is passing on the left), you
are to move into the far lane.

The cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license and a mandatory court appearance. Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law. It is true, see details at the following web address: http://www.moveoveramerica.com

Andy Harris Officially Files For Maryland's First Congressional District

Harris cites the need to protect the American dream from an out-of-control Congress

ANNAPOLIS
- State Senator Andy Harris, M.D. today officially filed his candidacy for Maryland's First Congressional District. Dr. Harris filed as a strong fiscal conservative who will work to stop the wasteful overspending and soaring national debt that endangers the American dream for current and future generations. Dr. Harris released the following statement:

"I am running to be the next member of Congress for Maryland's First District to protect citizens from an out-of-control Congress," Harris said. "After 18 months of bailouts, government takeovers, the largest national debt in history and trillion dollar spending schemes, it is clear we need new leadership in Washington. Marylanders are witnessing firsthand the systematic dismantling of the American dream by this Administration and the majority in Congress and they want it to stop. I am running to restore fiscal responsibility to Washington while ending the vast government overreaching endorsed by Congressional leaders and their rank-and-file enablers. I have a solid record on protecting taxpayers from the abuse we're seeing in Congress and am proud to have the broad support of Republicans, Democrats and Independent Marylanders who share my concerns and want to work to change the course our country is on."

Harris served 17 years in the United States Naval Reserve, including active duty during Desert Storm. He is a practicing obstetric anesthesiologist and served three terms in the Maryland State Senate.

Deepwater Drilling Ban Lifted By New Orleans Federal Judge

A New Orleans federal judge lifted the six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling imposed by President Barack Obama following the largest oil spill in U.S. history. Shares of drilling services companies jumped on the news.

Obama temporarily halted all drilling in waters deeper than 500 feet on May 27 to give a presidential commission time to study improvements in the safety of offshore operations. More than a dozen Louisiana offshore service and supply companies sued U.S. regulators to lift the ban.

U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman today granted a preliminary injunction, halting the moratorium. Government lawyers told Feldman that ban was based on findings in a U.S. report following the sinking of the Deepwater Horizon rig off the Louisiana coast in April.

“The court is unable to divine or fathom a relationship between the findings and the immense scope of the moratorium,” Feldman said in his 22-page decision. “The blanket moratorium, with no parameters, seems to assume that because one rig failed and although no one yet fully knows why, all companies and rigs drilling new wells over 500 feet also universally present an imminent danger.”

ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 22, 2010)
– Governor Martin O’Malley will join Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., House Speaker Michael E. Busch, Comptroller Peter Franchot, and Treasurer Nancy Kopp to make an announcement on specific government accountability and transparency actions by the General Assembly and the Board of Public Works moving forward.

The O’Malley-Brown Administration has championed open government, nationally recognized for its accountability and transparency tools that monitor investments made from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in Maryland. In addition, tools employed through BayStat, GreenPrint, and StateStat, place Maryland as the driving force behind some of the nation’s most cutting edge technology used to inform the public about the resources and services available to our State.

Salisbury’s Animal control Officers ask that you please leave your pets at home while running errands or making quick trips to places that doesn’t allow pets.

On hot days as we are currently experiencing or on a warm day that may seem comfortable to us, the temperature in a parked car can reach levels that can endanger your pet. The interior temperature can easily rise to 120 degrees in a matter of minutes, even with the windows partially open. Because a dog can only attempt to cool itself by panting and sweating through its paws, it can succumb to high temperatures in a very short time. Lasting effects of exposure to high temperatures can include heat stroke brain damage or death.

“JOBS ACROSS MARYLAND TOUR” WITH RELEASE OF STUDY ON MEDICAL INNOVATION, JOB CREATION

Governor joins former Majority Leader Dick Gephardt to release study on medical innovation in America

ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 22, 2010)
– Governor Martin O’Malley continued his “Jobs Across Maryland Tour” at Baltimore’s World Trade Center today, where he joined Dick Gephardt, former U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader, to release Gone Tomorrow?, a study on promoting medical innovation, creating jobs and finding cures for diseases. The study, prepared by the Battelle Technology Partnership Practice, develops a policy agenda for the continued investment in medical innovation, which will fuel job creation and discovery of cures.

“Maryland’s biotechnology industry is at the forefront of medical innovation and continues to make groundbreaking discoveries because of the State’s continued investments in our workforce, our higher education system and in the programs that have helped our emerging companies to succeed,” said Governor O’Malley. “We are pleased to join in the release of the Gone Tomorrow? report, which shares many of the same goals of our BioMaryland 2002 plan, including growing venture capital funding, investing in medical research and supporting tech transfer.”

Medical innovation has the proven ability to generate economic growth by sustaining and creating new jobs in the highly desirable, knowledge-based economy and providing significant health advances that benefit individuals and society as a whole. Gone Tomorrow? recognizes that policy proposals designed to spur innovation, economic development, and job growth should include medical innovation as a cornerstone to succeed fully.

“Medical innovation presents the best opportunity to help innovate our way out of the health and economic crises facing America today, but it’s clear the clock is ticking,” said Richard Gephardt, Former U.S. House Majority Leader and Chairman of the Council for American Medical Innovation. “Advancing a national strategy for medical innovation that engages all sectors – public, private and academic – through an empowered federal office is an effective first step.”

The study finds that over the past 30 years, our world-class medical innovation ecosystem has enabled the U.S. to become the global leader in biomedical development and provided people in the U.S. unparalleled access to medical breakthroughs.

Proposed actions in the report include:
· Sustained public investment in medical research;
· Enlightened public policies supporting technology transfer and intellectual property protection;
· Advanced venture financing at all stages of firm development;
· A robust market for new treatments; and
· A tax and regulatory climate that provided a path for private enterprise to advance new product development.

Under Governor O’Malley’s leadership, Maryland continues to invest in an “innovation economy,” even in tough times, through initiatives such as BioMaryland 2020. This initiative delivered approximately $100 million in investments in FY2010 and 2011 in the biotechnology industry, including more than $22 million for the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund. Governor O’Malley also increased investment in the Biotech Tax Credit from $6 million in FY2010 to $8 million in FY2011. Last month, Governor O’Malley proposed an ambitious initiative called Invest Maryland to invest in Maryland’s emerging technology and bioscience companies.

Home to nearly 500 bioscience companies and 50 research-intense federal institutes and centers, Maryland is well positioned in the global bioscience industry and has been recognized by the Milken Institute as one of the top tier states highly specialized in overall bioscience development. Since the early 1990s, Maryland has focused on bioscience development and was one of the first states to develop a strategic plan for the industry.

Over the years, strategic investments have helped Maryland’s bioscience industry grow into one of the world’s largest bioscience research complexes, known for its wealth of federal facilities, institutions of higher learning and concentration of highly trained bioscience researchers. From 2001 to 2006, the State’s bioscience industry grew by nearly 15 percent, adding 3,200 jobs to top more than 25,000 bioscience jobs in Maryland. In addition, from 2002 to 2007, Maryland’s university bioscience research soared, growing 44 percent from $877,000 to $1.3 billion. Today, Maryland ranks first among the states in federal R&D obligations, according to National Science Foundation data, and second in federal obligations for research and development with $12.5 billion.

Former U.S. House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt serves as Chairman of the Council for American Medical Innovation (CAMI). Launched in 2009, CAMI has brought together leaders in research, medicine, public health, academia, education, labor, and business, who are working in partnership to encourage public policies that advance medical innovation and the development of lifesaving treatments, enhance job growth, and promote patient access.

Sexual Assault Suspect Apprehended

Resume: Several weeks ago, the Delaware State Police was tasked with investigating two sexual assault cases in the Stanton Area.

Early this morning, detectives arrested 40-year-old Alfred Hubbard of the unit block of Blue Ridge Drive in Bear, Delaware. Mr. Hubbard was taken into custody by a surveillance team as he exited his home without incident.

The first incident of this investigation occurred on June 2nd when a female was sitting in her vehicle in a parking lot along the 1000 block Twin C Lane in Newark. The suspect approached the victim and brandished a handgun. A carjacking ensued and the victim was forced to drive to various locations where subsequent sexual assaults occurred. The victim was later advised to return to the area of the initial abduction where the suspect got out of the car and fled the scene.

On June 5th the second attack occurred where it appeared that the same suspect from the June 2nd incident abducted a female in the parking lot of 300 Continental Drive. A carjacking and sexual assault followed and the victim was eventually returned to the very spot where she was abducted.

Detectives diligently conducted their investigation in the days and weeks that followed. Composite sketches were distributed and hundreds of tips were forwarded to investigators through Crime Stoppers. At this time, it does not appear that Hubbard’s name was provided as a tip.

A break in the case came yesterday afternoon when DNA evidence collected during this investigation was processed using the CODIS system. CODIS is an acronym for the Combined DNA Indexing System. Detectives learned that the DNA evidence collected in this case proved to be a match to DNA previously indexed in Maryland and Virginia. From this, the suspect was identified as Alfred Hubbard.

Detectives worked hard to locate Hubbard, who previously lived in Dover, Smyrna and Clayton, Delaware. An arrest warrant was subsequently obtained last night and detectives set up surveillance at Hubbard’s house.

After the apprehension Alfred Hubbard was transported back to Troop 2 where he will be processed on the following charges:
Five counts of Rape
Seven counts of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a felony
Two counts of Kidnapping
Attempted Robbery
Robbery
Unlawful Sexual Contact and
Terroristic Threatening

The success in this investigation is shared amongst agencies both public and private. Detectives, patrol officers and citizens alike. A special note of thanks goes out to several people including the Christiana Care Health System SANE Nurses, DNA technicians from the State of Delaware Office of the Chief Medical Examiners, the CODIS administrator from Virginia, as well as the multiple Troopers who investigated this case.

A news release will be forthcoming which will outline Hubbard’s bail.

THREE CAR CRASH CLOSES ROUTE 90 BRIDGE FOR TWO HOURS

On June 18, 2010, just after midnight, Ocean City Police and Fire Department personnel responded the Route 90 bridge between Isle of White and Ocean City, in reference to three-vehicle car crash. When police arrived at the scene two of the three vehicles had caught fire and were quickly engulfed by flames.

For safety reasons, OCPD/FD personnel closed the Rt. 90 bridge in both directions so that the OC Fire Department could extinguish the fires. No one was injured as a result of the vehicle crash or the fire.

Investigation at the scene revealed that one of the three vehicles involved in the crash had a mechanical problem, which caused the driver to stop the vehicle on the apex of the bridge. A second vehicle stopped to assist the first vehicle, which was subsequently struck by a third vehicle operated by Michael Joseph Delaney, 38, of Ocean City.

Based on contact with Delaney, police suspected he might be under the influence of alcohol. Police conducted several field sobriety tests and later placed Delaney under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The bridge remained closed for over two hours so that Maryland State Highway Administration personnel could inspect it to ensure there were no damages. The bridge was re-opened at approximately 2:30 a.m.

The Ocean City Police Department reminds citizens if you are planning on or have consumed alcoholic beverages to not drive or operate motor vehicles. Citizens who have consumed alcoholic beverages should make use of available public transportation such as buses and taxis. Driving under the influence is not only illegal, but potentially deadly. The OCPD wants every citizen to get to their destination safely, so please don’t drink and drive.

Update On Sarah Foxwell Murder Trial

One of the bigger topics in today's hearing was, where are they going to house Thomas Leggs, suspect charged with the murder of 11 year old Sarah Foxwell.

The Cecil County Court/Jail is under construction and they cannot guarantee they can keep Leggs in Solitary confinement.

Leggs, who has been housed in Wicomico County will not be returning, as of today. There was talk today about sending Leggs to Anne Arundel County.

Wicomico County has budgeted $100,000.00 for this case and quite frankly, transporting Leggs back and forth from Anne Arundel County to Elkton will tap into those funds quite a bit.

Leggs attorney was complaining today that they still had yet to receive "discovery" from the Wicomico County States Attorney's Office but Ruark countered stating they would have that information in two weeks.

Many were amazed our earlier information had already made it onto the Internet. Unfortunately, most of the Foxwell Family did not make it to today's hearing. Sarah's Aunt, Tracey Powell was the only Family member to attend.

Mind you, this was not a "big show" and I can personally understand the Family not wanting to add any additional stress at this point in the trial proceedings. It will be difficult enough to sit through this case when it really takes off. In fact, (personally) I don't even know if I could handle what's about to be exposed in this case if I were Sarah's Uncle.

D.C. Police Warn Kids About Summer Curfew

The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department is doing a big campaign to let the city’s youngest residents know that if they’re out on the streets just one minute past midnight this summer, they’re in trouble.

Posters asking “Are U In?” warn that it’s breaking curfew for anyone under 17 to be on “the street,” in “the common area of an apartment building,” on Metro, or on “the premises of any private business (such as a movie theatre or store).”

The grammatically challenged campaign also uses the even less comprehensible tag line, “Are U N” -- which seems like it’s promoting Model United Nations programs. MPD has also created an unintentionally hilarious video to spread the word about staying at home:

Canceled Disney Vacation, A Missing Refund

Family emergency puts trip on hold, but Mickey shows little compassion

Q: I'm hoping you can help me. I read your column, and I really believe you are my last option.

My family and I were scheduled to visit Walt Disney World for six nights this spring. However, life got complicated when our daughter ran away. We called the police and reported her a runaway, and then finally canceled our vacation. She had not come home, and the police suggested we not leave the state while our minor child was missing.

While I realize that the running away of minor children is not a listed excuse for travel cancellation, how can it not be a bona fide reason? I imagine it's not listed because it is not a common occurrence — but who in their right mind would not heed the advice of police officers looking for a teenage runaway? What kind of crazy family would go on a Disney vacation while their child is missing?

May Home Sales Unexpectedly Fall 2.2 Percent

Boost from government incentives appears to be winding down

WASHINGTON - Sales of previously occupied homes dipped 2.2 percent in May, signaling that a boost from home-buying tax credits is fading sooner than expected.

Last month's sales fell from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.66 million, the National Association of Realtors said Tuesday. Analysts who had expected sales to rise expressed concern that the real estate market could tumble once the benefit of the federal incentives is gone entirely, starting next month.

Sales have climbed 25 percent from the 4.5 million annual rate hit in January 2009 — the lowest level of the recession. But they're still down 22 percent from the peak rate of 7.25 million in September 2005.

The Sack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought.

Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation.

'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me.
'Petawawa. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Afghanistan

After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached the east, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time...

As I reached for my wallet, I overheard a soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. 'No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to base.'

His friend agreed.

I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. 'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.' She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. 'My son was a soldier in Iraq; it's almost like you are doing it for him.'

Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, 'Which do you like best - beef or chicken?'
'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of the plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class.

'This is your thanks..'

After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A man stopped me. 'I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.' He handed me twenty-five dollars.

Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand and said, 'I want to shake your hand.' Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain's hand. With a booming voice he said, 'I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.' I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.

Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm.

When we landed I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!

Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base.
I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. 'It will take you some time to reach the base.. It will be about time for a sandwich.
God Bless You.'

Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers.

As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country.. I could only give them a couple of meals. It seemed so little...

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'

Why Doesn't The Media Interrogate Tea Partiers' Beliefs?

The media's enduring, and understandable, fascination with the Tea Party movement continues unabated, as this weekend's coverage demonstrates. Unfortunately, what appear to be false notions of objectivity—or perhaps a lack of interest in policy—is preventing that coverage from illuminating what the movement actually represents and what it would do if empowered.

Case in point: the Associated Press just published a 2,300 word stemwinder examining how and why a variety of individuals became involved in the Tea Party movement without once asking what precisely the platform consists of. It tells you the back stories of representative Tea Partiers, dutifully quotes their antipathy toward government, taxes, and deficit spending, and their horror at the accusation that they are motivated by racial animus. But the reporter seems never to have posed any serious questions about what tradeoffs they would make to achieve their stated goals.

There are only two ways to balance a budget in the red: raising taxes, which Tea Partiers vehemently oppose, and cutting spending. But what spending should be cut? Defense and veterans spending, which accounts for 54 percent of the federal budget? It would be pretty hard to merge that with the Republicans' foreign-policy-hawk wing. Entitlement spending such as Social Security and Medicare? Good luck winning elections with that platform. Discretionary domestic spending is the favorite target of fiscal conservatives. But when it comes to specifics, suddenly every program seems worthier than when demonized in the collective abstract. Which politician wants to cut spending on Homeland Security? Education for students with special needs? (Surely not Sarah Palin!)

'Walpin-Gate' Case Buried

The lawsuit brought by former Inspector General Gerald Walpin, whose dismissal by President Obama last year has been challenged by congressmen as potentially illegal political retaliation, has been dismissed in federal court.

U.S. District Judge Richard Roberts late last week dismissed Walpin's case, reasoning that the Inspector General Reform Act – a bill co-sponsored by then-Sen.Obama to keep inspectors general free from presidential political interference – gives Walpin no legal recourse for getting his job back, even if the president did fire him illegally.

As WND reported, the White House fired Walpin from his watchdog position over the Corporation for National and Community Services shortly after the inspector general exposed sexual misconduct and gross misappropriation of federal funds by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a prominent Obama supporter.

The IGRA, however, is supposed to grant inspectors general special protection from political interference or retaliation to ensure they are free to investigate waste and fraud, uninfluenced by political cronyism.

Walpin contends Obama provided neither sufficient cause nor notice in firing him, a violation of the specific provisions of the IGRA. And though the president has already nominated his replacement, the former inspector general sued to be reinstated.

Judge Roberts' opinion, however, argues the IGRA does not guarantee individual inspectors general "an enforceable right to continued employment," and therefore, Walpin has no standing to petition the court for his job back.

Furthermore, Roberts opined, "While Walpin complains that the president's rationale was insufficient, Walpin fails to show how the IGRA provides any sort of criteria that would allow a court to make that determination."

To simplify the language, the judge's 15-page opinion contends the IGRA is a law governing the relationship between Congress and the White House regarding inspectors general, not a law granting any protections to the inspectors general themselves. Therefore, the judge concludes, the IGRA requiresCongress, not the courts, to hold the president accountable.

Jim Rutledge Wins Endorsement Of Baltimore County Reagan Republican Club

Rutledge Receives a Super Majority from Republican Party Membership

FOREST HILL, Maryland

U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge was the overwhelming favorite of Baltimore County Republicans in a straw poll conducted Thursday. Rutledge received a super majority of ballots cast to gain the endorsement. Baltimore County is considered a "Bell Weather" county for candidates seeking statewide office. Jim Rutledge said, "This group reflects the heart and soul of the Republican Party in Baltimore County, and I am proud to receive their endorsement."

The Rutledge for Senate Campaign believes this endorsement is another example of the support and momentum Jim Rutledge is garnering in his effort to reform Washington and return a conservative majority to the U.S. Senate. Rutledge stated, "The Baltimore County Republicans are well informed and very active and this result shows our campaign has mushroomed."

Jim Rutledge continues to fight to end the out of control spending of career politicians like Barbara Mikulski. The time has come for Marylanders to unite and help return the values of Ronald Reagan to Washington.

NBA's Manute Bol Remembered For Humanitarian Work

Multisource political news, world news, and entertainment news analysis by Newsy.com

Former NBA player Manute Bol died Saturday at a hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, at the age of 47.

EDITOR'S NOTES: When I was a kid growing up in Bowie, we often ran into Manute Bol at local stores. I'll never forget meeting him for the first time. His waist/belt line seemed to be as tall as I was. He played for the Washington Bullets and back then he spoke broken english but always smiled and treated every one with kindness. Living in Bowie allowed us to meet many Professional Football Players, Hockey Players and of course Basketball Players. None were as kind as this Gentle Giant. R.I.P. Manute Bol.

Right Turn Only

Hi Joe,

Maybe by posting this an accident will be avoided.

On Schumaker Drive basically in Parkside High School’s parking lot is a red brick “house” that the BOE bought a few years ago. I think it’s called the ICT now. When coming out of their driveway you have to make a right hand turn & go to the opening in the divided portion of the road to turn around.

On more than one occasion I have had seen vehicles make a left out of that driveway. Yes, they are driving the wrong way on a divided roadway. This is much to the surprise of anyone who happens to turn on to Schumaker Drive to find someone coming at them head on.

I have contacted the Board of Ed so this is really to let others know to be really careful over there.

Thanks.

Thomas Sowell: Is The U.S. On Slippery Slope To Tyranny?

When Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s, leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics.

Such people were a valuable addition to his political base, since they were particularly susceptible to Hitler's rhetoric and had far less basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions.

"Useful idiots" was the term supposedly coined by V.I. Lenin to describe similarly unthinking supporters of his dictatorship in the Soviet Union.

Put differently, a democracy needs informed citizens if it is to thrive, or ultimately even survive.

In our times, American democracy is being dismantled, piece by piece, before our very eyes by the current administration in Washington, and few people seem to be concerned about it.

The president's poll numbers are going down because increasing numbers of people disagree with particular policies of his, but the damage being done to the fundamental structure of this nation goes far beyond particular counterproductive policies.

Just where in the Constitution of the United States does it say that a president has the authority to extract vast sums of money from a private enterprise and distribute it as he sees fit to whomever he deems worthy of compensation? Nowhere.

And yet that is precisely what is happening with a $20 billion fund to be provided by BP to compensate people harmed by their oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Many among the public and in the media may think that the issue is simply whether BP's oil spill has damaged many people, who ought to be compensated.

But our government is supposed to be "a government of laws and not of men."

If our laws and our institutions determine that BP ought to pay $20 billion — or $50 billion or $100 billion — then so be it.

But the Constitution says that private property is not to be confiscated by the government without "due process of law."

Technically, it has not been confiscated by Barack Obama, but that is a distinction without a difference.

With vastly expanded powers of government available at the discretion of politicians and bureaucrats, private individuals and organizations can be forced into accepting the imposition of powers that were never granted to the government by the Constitution.

If you believe that the end justifies the means, then you don't believe in constitutional government.

And, without constitutional government, freedom cannot endure. There will always be a "crisis" — which, as the president's chief of staff has said, cannot be allowed to "go to waste" as an opportunity to expand the government's power.

$189 Million Contract To Run Maryland Veterans Home Stirs Protest

A potential $189 million contract to operate Maryland’s only state-run veterans home is being protested by the low bidder for the contract, which contends the winner and current operator failed to disclose significant information.

That information included major problems with patient care at an Alabama veterans facility it runs that was cited in a report by the U.S. Justice Department and criminal charges against two workers for assaulting a patient at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in St. Mary's County.

Verizon Wireless May Follow AT&T, Drop Unlimited Data Plans

When Verizon Wireless begins to introduce plans for its next generation data network later this year, don't expect to see any all-you-can-eat unlimited offerings. The Preston Lemon Update

This is the updated information on my Ford Focus Lemon.

The Preston Ford service department contacted my mother today June 21,2010 since I was unavailable today. The lady from the service department asked my mother for the wheel to the destroyed tire since they would need it for the new tires that were ordered so they can put the tires on so the car can be returned back to me. Mom said Ford is buying the car back you are not supposed to be putting tires on it.

My mother contacted the service dept back and spoke to a gentleman there and asked why are they putting tires on the car he responded so they can get the car back to me. My mother called David Wilson Jr. and asked why is the service dept putting tires on the vehicle when the agreement was to get this car bought back. He responded that she was talking to too many people, she should only speak to him, (keep in mind Preston service called here).

David Wilson Jr. told my mother I'm not going to put her back in that car don't worry. My brother thinks Preston is up to something so he called on my behalf since I was unavailable today and spoke to David Wilson Jr.. He asked what's going on. David Jr responded that he's trying his best to get the car bought back. My brother responded, that's a politicians answer give me a yes or no if you are going to buy this car back and get her into another new car. He responded, yes we will get her in another car if we have to buy the car back. We want to keep a happy customer.

David Wilson Jr. told me last Monday they would have the car for three days it's turned into seven full days. I've been more than patient about this. I believe Preston along with Ford are trying to pull a switch and bait on me.

David Wilson Jr. originally told my mother that his reputation was on the line no new car was worth ruining his reputation. Let's get something straight I'm not trying to ruin any one's reputation I stating all the facts in this serious matter that Preston ignored until it was posted on the SBYNews.

In final words Preston agreed to get this car bought back one way or another. As of today it still has not been bought back. Fact and Truth, this car is a lemon. Preston needs to do what they promised and stop making me suffer.

I will keep you posted to the outcome.

HR 5175

Ask Kratovil to Oppose H.R. 5175, the "DISCLOSE" Act

Congress wants to make you shut up. Will you let them?

H.R 5175, the "DISCLOSE Act" is a bill designed to protect 2010 incumbents.

Fearful of what Election Day in November will bring them, liberals in Congress are pushing H.R. 5175, the "DISCLOSE Act," a bill disguised as campaign finance reform, but which is really designed to protect incumbents during the current election year.

Tell Representative Frank Kratovil to OPPOSE H.R. 5175
Instead of addressing the problems often found in the financing of campaigns, H.R. 5175 adds to the already onerous burdens placed on law-abiding organizations by exposing their donors in places like TV, radio and newspaper ads. The bill exposes the hypocrisy of its supporters by giving special treatment to favored special interests, even though the bill is designed to crack down on the power of many other special interests!

These tactics are used to intimidate donors. They were used in the 1960s during the Civil Rights struggles, and more recently have been employed against Christians in states like Massachusetts, California and Maine for merely voicing their beliefs on marriage being between one man and one woman.

Now the Democrats want to intimidate you into silence as well!

The goal behind this bill, written by the head of the Democratic Congressional Committee and a liberal Republican who fears a primary challenge, is to influence this election in particular.

Liberals are well aware that the DISCLOSE Act is unconstitutional. They know that the courts may eventually overturn the law, but not before November 2nd, 2010 -- election day. By then, the damage to free speech will have already been done.

Please contact Congressman Kratovil today and tell him to oppose H.R. 5175, the DISCLOSE Act.

Senator Says Obama Holding Border 'Hostage'

Sen. Jon Kyl has accused President Obama of holding "hostage" efforts to secure the nation's border with Mexico because he wants to get something in return, a statement that has the White House frantically calling the longtime Arizona Republican a liar.

White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer issued a statement to Fox News stating, "The president didn't say that and Sen. Kyl knows it."

There remains at issue, then, just exactly who is doing the lying.

"Seems like everybody lies except Obama," talk radio icon Rush Limbaugh told listeners today. "Everybody is lying. Obama never does."

The dispute erupted over the weekend with Kyl's appearance before the North Tempe, Ariz., Tea Party town hall where he described the one-on-one meeting with Obama.

"I met with the president in the Oval Office … just the two of us," Kyl said. "We had a discussion. Here's what the president said. The problem is, the president said, if wesecure the border, then you all won't have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform.

"It other words, they're holding it hostage," Kyl said, prompting gasps of surprise or possibly outrage in the room. "They don't want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with comprehensive immigration reform."

RSC Update

From the Chairman

In a republic such as ours, citizens expect their elected leaders to find solutions that work and take responsibility for their actions. Sadly, most Washington Democrats have proven themselves unable to live up to these simple expectations.

Consider the budget. Americans want Washington to stop spending trillions of dollars we do not have, but the Democrats’ only plan is to close their eyes, avoid a budget vote, and pretend the deficits are not real. Unfortunately, burying their heads in the sand will not make these deficits go away. That will take real leadership and a balanced budget like the one introduced by the RSC.

With unemployment still high, the lack of jobs remains a primary concern. Many employers who might otherwise be hiring have instead hunkered down under the Democrats’ onslaught of higher taxes, costly mandates, and growth-stymieing debt. Republicans want to lower obstacles to growth and job creation, but Democrats are too busy claiming their failed stimulus will foster a “recovery summer” – despite their previous assertions that the stimulus would “likely be contributing little to growth” by mid-2010.

And despite their massive majorities in the House and Senate, Democrats now plan to wait until after the November elections to try to pass their disastrous national energy tax. This lame duck strategy only makes sense if Democrats believe they would be defying the will of their constituents – which they would. Instead of underhanded tactics to create a policy for less energy, the country needs an “all-you-can-create” energy policy.

We need serious leadership in Washington that respects and listens to the American people.

Sincerely,

Congressman Tom Price
Chairman, Republican Study Committee

Middle Class--Not The Rich Or The Poor--Pay Majority Of Federal Taxes

Middle-class Americans--not the rich or the poor--pay the majority of annual tax revenues taken in by the federal government, according to data released in a new Congressional Budget Office study. Households earning less than $34,300 per year, meanwhile, actually pay a negative average federal income tax rate.

Middle-class households that earned between $34,300 and $141,900 paid 50.5 percent of all federal tax revenues in 2007 (the most recent year analyzed), according to the CBO study released Thursday, and households that earned between $34,300 and $352,900 paid 66.7 percent of all federal taxes.

Households in the top 1 percent for annual income (those earning more than $352,900) paid a hefty 28.1 percent of all federal taxes, but households in the lower income brackets paid relatively little. Those earning less than $34,300 paid only 5.2 percent of all federal taxes, and those earning less than $20,500 carried almost none of the federal tax burden (just 0.8 percent of the total) in 2007.

The average overall federal tax rate (including income, Social Security, Medicare, excise and other taxes) for all American households was 20.4 percent in 2007. But the average rate rose dramatically as household income rose. Households earning less than $34,300 paid an average overall federal tax rate of 10.6 percent, while households earning more than $74,700 paid an average overall federal tax rate of almost two and half times that much--25.1 percent.

The Solution To Many Of Today's Problems

I, Tina Griego, journalist for the Denver Rocky Mountain News wrote a column titled, "Mexican Visitor's Lament"- 10/25/07. I interviewed Mexican journalist Evangelina Hernandez while visiting Denver last week. Hernandez said, "Illegal aliens pay rent, buy groceries, buy clothes. What happens to your country's economy if 20 million people go away?"

Hummm, I thought, what would happen. So, I did my due diligence, buried my nose as a reporter into the FACTS I found below. It's a good question it deserves an honest answer. Over 80% of Americans demand secured borders and illegal migration stopped. But what would happen if all 20 million or more vacated America? The answers I found may surprise you!

In California, if 3.5 million illegal aliens moved back to Mexico, it would leave an extra $10.2 billion to spend on overloaded school systems, bankrupt hospitals and overrun prisons. It would leave highways cleaner, safer and less congested. Everyone could understand one another as English became the dominant language again.

In Colorado, 500,000 illegal migrants, plus their 300,000 kids and grandchildren would move back home, mostly to Mexico. That would save Colorado an estimated $2 billion (other experts say $7 billion) annually in taxes that pay for schooling, medical, social services and incarceration costs. It means 12,000 gang members would vanish out of Denver alone.

Colorado would save more than $20 million in prison costs, and the terror that those 7,300 alien criminals set upon local citizens. Denver Police Officer Don Young and hundreds of Colorado victims would not have suffered death, accidents, rapes and other crimes by illegals.

Denver Public Schools would not suffer a 67% dropout/flunk rate because of thousands of illegal alien students speaking 41 different languages. At least 200,000 vehicles would vanish from our gridlocked cities in Colorado. Denver's 4% unemployment rate would vanish as our working poor would gain jobs at a living wage.

In Florida, 1.5 million illegals would return the Sunshine State back to America, the rule of law, and English.

In Chicago, Illinois, 2.1 million illegals would free up hospitals, schools, prisons and highways for a safer, cleaner and more crime-free experience.

If 20 million illegal aliens returned 'home', the U.S. Economy would return to the rule of law. Employers would hire legal American citizens at a living wage. Everyone would pay their fair share of taxes because they wouldn't be working off the books. That would result in an additional $401 Billion in IRS income taxes collected annually, and an equal amount for local, state and city coffers.

No more push '1' for Spanish or '2' for English. No more confusion in American schools that now must contend with over 100 languages that degrade the educational system for American kids. Our overcrowded schools would lose more than two million illegal alien kids at a cost of billions in ESL and free breakfasts and lunches.

We would lose 500,000 illegal criminal alien inmates at a cost of more than $1.6 billion annually. That includes 15,000 MS-13 gang members, who distribute $130 billion in drugs annually, that would vacate our country.

In cities like L.A., 20,000 members of the '18th Street Gang' would vanish from our nation. No more Mexican forgery gangs for ID theft from Americans! No more foreign rapists and child molesters!

Losing more than 20 million people would clear up our crowded highways and gridlock. Cleaner air and less drinking and driving American deaths by illegal aliens!

America's economy is drained. Taxpayers are harmed. Employers get rich. Over $80 billion annually wouldn't return to the aliens home countries by cash transfers. Illegal migrants earned half that money untaxed, which further drains America 's economy which currently suffers an $8.7 trillion debt.

At least 400,000 anchor babies would not be born in our country, costing us $109 billion per year per cycle. At least 86 hospitals in California, Georgia and Florida would still be operating instead of being bankrupt out of existence because illegals pay nothing via the EMTOLA Act.

Americans wouldn't suffer thousands of TB and hepatitis cases rampant in our country, brought in by unscreened illegals at our borders.

Our cities would see 20 million less people driving, polluting and gridlocking our cities. It would also put the 'progressives' on the horns of a dilemma; illegal aliens and their families cause 11% of our greenhouse gases.

Over one million of Mexico's poorest citizens now live inside and along our border from Brownsville, Texas to San Diego, California in what the New York Times called, 'colonias' or new neighborhoods. Trouble is, those living areas resemble Bombay and Calcutta where there is grinding poverty, filth, diseases, drugs, crimes, no sanitation and worse. They live without sewage, clean water, streets, roads, electricity, or any kind of sanitation.

The New York Times reported them to be America's new 'Third World' inside our own country. Within 20 years, at their current growth rate, they expect 20 million residents of those colonias. I've seen them personally in Texas and Arizona. It's sickening beyond anything you can imagine.

By enforcing our laws, we could repatriate them back to Mexico. We should invite 20 million aliens to go home, fix their own countries and/or make a better life in Mexico. We already invite a million people into our country legally, more than all other countries combined annually. We cannot and must not allow anarchy at our borders, more anarchy within our borders, and growing lawlessness at every level in our nation. It's time to stand up for our country, our culture, our civilization and our way of life.

Interesting Statistics!

Here are 14 reasons illegal aliens should vacate America, and I hope they are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them:

1. $14 billion to $22 billion dollars are spent each year on welfare to illegal aliens.(that's billion with a 'B')

2. $2.2 billion dollars are spent each year on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens.

3. $7.5 billion dollars are spent each year on Medicaid for illegal aliens.

4. $12 billion dollars are spent each year on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally and they still cannot speak a word of English!

5. $27 billion dollars are spent each year for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens, known as anchor babies.

6. $3 Million Dollars 'PER DAY' is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens. That's $1.2 Billion a year.

7. 28 percent of all federal prison inmates are illegal aliens who are given 3 square meals a day and medical free of charge.

8. $190 billion dollars are spent each year on illegal aliens for welfare & social services by the American taxpayers. -

9. $200 billion dollars per year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens.

10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children, are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US.

11. During the year 2005, there were 8 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our southern border with as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from other terrorist countries. Over 10,000 of those were middle-eastern terrorists. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroine, crack, guns, and marijuana crossed into the U.S.from the southern border.

12. The National Policy Institute estimates that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion, or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.

13. In 2006, illegal aliens sent home $65 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin, to their families and friends.

14. The dark side of illegal immigration: Nearly one million sex crimes are committed by illegal immigrants in the United States!

Total cost: A whopping $538.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!

On June 15, 2010 at approximately 8:21am an officer responded to the FoxField Apartment Complex for the report of a suspicious person. On arrival, the officer met with the complaining party who advised that a black male has been lying on the slide located in the playground area of the complex. According to the complainant, the black male had been there for approximately 45 minutes and has not moved. The officer observed the black male on the slide and attempted to wake him up. The officer removed Brown’s hand from the pocket and immediately patted Brown down for weapons. The officer located a .38 caliber handgun in Brown’s right front pocket. Brown attempted to resist arrest as the officer was placing handcuffs on him. It was later learned that Brown had a previous misdemeanor conviction in Worcester County, MD. TROOPERS SEARCH FOR HIT AND RUN DRIVER WHO KILLED CARROLL CO. MAN

(Westminster, MD) -- Maryland State Police are searching for the driver and vehicle that struck and killed a Carroll County man whose body was found today along Rt. 97 near his home.

The victim is identified as James O. Robinette Jr., 40, of the 2000-block of Littlestown Pike, Westminster, Md. He was pronounced dead at the scene, which is near the home where he lived with a relative.

Evidence left at the scene indicates the suspect vehicle is possibly a 1996 or 1997 Saturn S-1 series four-door sedan or station wagon. The vehicle is forest green with gold pin stripes.

The vehicle involved should have extensive front end damage and is likely missing a major portion of a front fender. The vehicle is also missing an external rearview mirror.

Just before 3:00 p.m. today, Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barracks were called by a man who was jogging south along the northbound shoulder of Rt. 97, north of Bachman Valley Road. The man observed damaged car parts along the roadside and then saw the victim’s body on the other side of the guardrail. He called police immediately.

Based on the position of the victim and the damaged car parts at the scene, troopers quickly identified this as a hit and run fatality. The Maryland State Police CRASH Team responded and is conducting the investigation with the assistance of road troopers and criminal investigators from the Westminster Barracks, as well as crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was last seen alive by a female acquaintance at his home about 3:30 a.m. yesterday. Although he had not been seen since, he had not been reported missing to police and there was no prior report of a traffic crash in this area that police responded to.

State Police investigators believe the victim was struck by a vehicle that was northbound on Rt. 97, possibly in the early morning hours of June 20th. Troopers collected evidence left at the scene and took the car parts to an area Saturn dealer. Experts at the dealership identified the parts as being from the vehicle described above.

Troopers have issued a lookout for the vehicle to police in Maryland and in Pennsylvania. Anyone with information about the suspect vehicle and/or driver is urged to contact Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barracks at 410-386-3000, ext. 0. Calls may be kept confidential.

BY PROMOTING MEDICAL INNOVATION, JOB CREATION

Governor to join former Majority Leader Dick Gephardt to release study on medical innovation in America

ANNAPOLIS, MD
– Governor Martin O’Malley will continue his “Jobs Across Maryland Tour” tomorrow with former U.S. House of Representatives Majority Leader Dick Gephardt as they release Gone Tomorrow, a study on promoting medical innovation, creating jobs and finding cures for diseases.

Medical innovation has the proven ability to generate economic growth by sustaining and creating new jobs in the highly desirable, knowledge-based economy and providing significant health advances that benefit individuals and society as a whole. The study, prepared by the Battelle Technology Partnership Practice, develops a policy agenda for the continued investment in medical innovation, which will fuel job creation and discovery of cures.

Under Governor O’Malley’s leadership, Maryland continues to invest in an “innovation economy,” even in tough times, through initiatives such as BioMaryland 2020, increasing investments for Biotech Tax Credits, extending the Research & Development Tax Credit and proposing Invest Maryland to invest in Maryland’s emerging technology and bioscience companies.
